Certified Faith: The Blessings of Having Your Faith Challenged

A man born blind experienced one of the greatest miracles in the New Testament. His testimony was simple, "I was once blind, but now I see." Listen and be amazed at how this poor, disabled outcast of society was given faith and that faith was confirmed by the opposition he faced from the Pharisees. From this narrative we can see how his faith was created, challenged, and confirmed for the sake of bringing glory to Christ.

In this holiday season we often have opportunity to share with others our Christian faith. What exactly is it that makes up our Christian faith? Consider other faiths: Hinduism, Islam, or Buddhism. The essence of these religions are their ideas, ideology, or theology. What about Christianity? The Christian faith is unlike any other religion in that it is not merely ideas, a system of theology, framework, or ideology. It is not centered on these things but rather on a Person, the Lord Jesus Christ. Other religions could conceivably have been formed apart from their leaders since their emphasis was on the ideas. Christianity however, cannot exist without Christ. The exclusive claims of Christianity is unlike other religions in that Christ is both the message and the means to receive the message. Only through Christ, the sole shepherd, can sinners find forgiveness of sin!

The safest place in a firestorm is the place where the fire has already been. Where can the Christian go, but to Christ who has experienced the full condemnation that we deserved! God's sheep are secure in Christ because Christ has paid it all, there is nothing left to be consumed by, nothing left to be condemned by -- all condemnation has been laid on Christ!

In the news of her husband's death, Sarah Edwards writes to her daughter these words:

"O my very Dear Child, What shall I say. A holy and good God has covered us with a dark cloud. O that we may all kiss the rod and lay our hands on our mouths. The Lord has done it. He has made me adore his goodness that we had him so long. But my God lives and he has my heart. O what a legacy my husband and your father has left us. We are all given to God and there I am and love to be."

Sarah Edwards had a Godward view of grief.  Listen and see how we can glorify God with our grief!

Loving Christ Deeply and People Rightly

Have you ever noticed on airplane flights that you are instructed to place the emergency oxygen masks on yourself first before your children? We understand this thinking since it makes sense that we first have air in our lungs before we can help others have air in theirs. The same thinking holds true regarding our service to others. We cannot serve and minister to peoples needs if we put them before our personal worship to Christ. We become ineffective and useless if our hearts are not worshipping Christ, adoring Christ, and savoring Christ. Listen to see how we can love people rightly by loving Christ deeply.
